Deliverance

By Scott Snow

Deliverance

Alma and Amulek were missionaries teaching about God’s plan and repentance through Christ to the people living in the land of Ammonihah. These people were wicked, but some believed in their words and wanted to repent of their ways. Others hardened their hearts and wanted to get rid of the people that believed what was being taught. They arrested Alma and Amulek, drove the believing men out of the city and stoned them, and then burned their wives and children in a large fire along with the holy scriptures.

The perpetrators and evil civilians did not allow their citizens the liberty or freedom to worship according to their beliefs. They imprisoned Alma and Amulek and tortured them. Then Alma cried out to Lord asking Him to deliver them from this torture through their faith in Christ. They were then given the strength to break their bindings. When their captors witnessed this, they were afraid and tried to run away. Those that had tortured them were slain as the prison crumbled to the ground and Alma and Amulek walked out free and unscathed.

Additional

Alma and Amulek were faithful missionaries teaching about God’s plan and repentance through Christ to the people living in the land of Ammonihah. These people were wicked, but some believed in their words and wanted to repent of their ways.

Others were angry with what they were being taught and wanted to get rid of the people that believed in their words. Alma and Amulek were falsely arrested for breaking the law, the men that believed their words were driven out of the city and stoned, and their wives and children were burned in a large fire along with the holy scriptures. These deplorable perpetrators and evil civilians did not allow their citizens the liberty or freedom to worship according to their beliefs. They would rather kill them than hear that they were doing anything immoral. They imprisoned Alma and Amulek and tortured them for many days.

Then Alma cried out asking the Lord how long they were required to suffer. They asked, that through their faith in Him, to liberate them from their bonds. After pleading with the Lord, they were able to break out of their bindings. Their accusers were afraid for their lives and tried to run away and out of the prison. However, the walls of the prison began to shake and those that had tortured them were slain as the prison crumbled to the ground. Alma and Amulek walked out free and unscathed. Seeing what had taken place, the civilians fled as they too were afraid.

Alma and Amulek left Ammonihah and continued their missionary efforts. Lamanite warriors later entered Ammonihah, killed their people and destroyed their city. Due to the stench of death and utter destruction, Ammonihah was uninhabitable and was later renamed the land of Desolation.
